WVC hosts alternative fuel vehicle event on Oct. 18

Wenatchee Valley College will host a National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, around the fountain on the Wenatchee campus. The event is dedicated to promoting the use of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.

Alternative vehicle displays will include:

• A selection of flex fuel vehicles from Town Dodge
• A Ford Fusion hybrid from Town Ford
• A Hybrid Yukon and flex fuel GMC Sierra from Sangster Motors
• A plug-in hybrid electric school bus from Lake Chelan School District
• Various hybrid and electric vehicles from the Wenatchee Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA)
• A plug-in Prius Hymotion conversion from the WVC Automotive Technology department
• An electric trolley from Link Transit
• A plug-in Prius from Town Toyota
• Nissan Leafs from Town Nissan and local resident John Sweeney
• Electric conversions from Pan Handle EV Club
• A Honda Insight from Apple Valley Honda
• Electric bikes and trikes from Lake Chelan Electric Bikes
• A lithium-battery powered Zenn Car from local resident Charlie Jewell
• A Tesla Model S from Plug In America
• A Porsche 914 converted to electric
• A new CODA electric car

Some of the exhibitors will offer free rides in the vehicles.

The National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey is developed and coordinated by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC), a program of West Virginia University. Odyssey 2012 is partially funded by the Advanced Electric Drive Vehicle Education Program, an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant through the U.S. Department of Energy.
